For this year’s studio paper, we are refurbishing the Auckland Wintergardens.
The coloured artisan sky glass is where I wanted to apply colours into the site. When i visited the site i’ve noticed that the only colours that can be found in the three main gardens were greenery, while other colours such as flowers can be foung outside the site.
Hence to why I am using the colour pastel palette as the site needs colours and i figured the court yard pond will attract more people into the site. For my chosen colour palette I used my photos of flowers that I have taken from outside of the site.
The designer inspiration I have looked into were Kazuyo Sejima, Amanda Levete and Daniel Burren.
For my proposal I wanted to design a place for people to take a breather from reality and appreciate the outside world, to do so I will be creating coloured glass shelters to project coloured shadows onto the site.
After playing around with the layouts of the shelter this is what i’ve came up with, I figured that since the two glasshouses are smmytrical as well the pond i figured that the shape and sizes of the glass shelters should vary, i got this idea of overlapping and different sizes from the lilypads.
The shelter designs are my own design for the shelter using scoria as an inspiration and are extruded inwards.
