Updated positioning statement

1.

For my proposal I want a place for people to take a step back from reality and rewind, in doing so the best way to do this is to appreciate environment outside of our houses and workplace. The reason to why I wanted to refurbish the water fountain was because when I sat down in one of the benches that is located near the pond something was missing from my experience.

The Wintergardens was a nice place to chill on a sunny day however, it felt as if something was missing when I sat down in one of the benches and that was the sound of the water running down.

The Wintergarden contains three main gardens Tropical, Temperature and Fernery in all these sites there weren’t any pop of colours such as primary colours. Therefore, for my proposal I wanted to create colourful shadows onto the site, the only idea I came up with to achieve this was glass shelters around the pond area where people will be able to sit underneath them.

To commemorate the history of Pukekawa, the engraved design of the glass shelters was inspired by scoria, while the colour palette of the shelters are from the different types of colours of the flowers that can be found outside the site.

During my first visit to the Winter Garden I quite like how the layout was symmetrical making it eye catchy and organized. For my proposal I am thinking of refurbishing the pond that is located in the center of the site between the two glasshouses, in the previous floor plan of the Wintergardens there is already a small fountain in the pond but it wasn’t that noticeable.

For my proposal I want a place for people to take a step back from reality and rewind, in doing so the best way to do this is to appreciate environment outside of our houses and workplace. The Wintergarden contains three main gardens Tropical, Temperature and Fernery in all these sites there weren’t any pop of colours such as primary colours, the main colours in the site are dreary, grey-beige and greenery. Therefore, besides the fountain I also wanted to add colours into the site, through colourful shadows the only idea I came up with to achieve this was glass shelters around the pond area where people will be able to sit underneath them.

To commemorate the history of pukekawa, the engraved design of the shelters was inspired by scoria, while the colour palette of the shelters are from the different types of colours of the flowers that I found outside the site. While keeping the same symmetrical shape of the site I decided to create the shelters to be flat.

The Artisan Sky Glass

Programme: what are you designing

Glass shelters

How large will your design be and why?

Shelter:

Ranging from 1800mm to 3000mm tall

Ranging from 1000mm to 1500mm diameter

Support pole 100mm diameter

The bigger the diameter the better as the shadows will be visible more, however a few shelters sizes and height will vary as I didn’t want to stick to one size and height

Fountain: (4 glass fountain)

Ranging from 300mm to 1200mm tall (height difference between each fountain is 150mm)

150mm fountain height

200mm glass fountain diameter

Support pole 50mm diameter

Accommodate how many people and why?

Depending on how big the size of the shelter it could accommodate about 4-6 people

What materials will your design showcase?

Stainless steel, coloured glass, slightly frosted glass

What drawings do you need to present your specific design proposal? what order you carry out?
