For my next idea i’m going to experiment on making the glass design to be frosted rather than it being clear

For my final design I will be using the inwards design but instead of the glass shelter being fully transparent I will be making it slightly frosted due to because to avoid direct sunlight to the eyes, as If I were to visit this site I would have wanted to look up at all the coloured glass shelter hence the reason to why I will be making it with frosted glass for people’s health and safety. Besides shelter are meant to block out the sun however in this case I want people to appreciate the sun and how it does wonders with glass and shadows.

3 TYPES OF FROSTED GLASS FOR YOUR REFERENCE
Frosted glass is produced by the sandblasting or acid etching of clear sheet glass. This creates a pitted surface on one side of the glass pane and has the effect of rendering the glass translucent by scattering the light which passes through, thus blurring images while still transmitting light.
- Frosted Glass can be divide into 3 types glass
1) Sandblasted Glass
Sandblast glass admits light while providing softening and vision control .Sandblast glass is made by spraying and at high velocities over the surface of the glass .This gives the glass a translucent surface ,which is usually rougher than that obtained by etching .During sandblasting ,only the areas that are to remain transparent are masked for protection .The depth and degree of the translucency of the sand-blasted finishing vary with the force and type of and used.
2) Satin Glass
Satin Glass is produced by the sandblasting or acid etching of clear sheet glass. It has the effect of rendering the glass translucent by scattering of light during transmission, thus blurring images while still transmitting light.
3) Acid Etched Glass
Acid etched glass is produced by acid etching the glass to form an obscure and smooth surface. This glass admits light while providing softening and vision control. It can be used in both residential and commercial settings e.g. doors, shower screens, furniture, wall paneling, etc. Now our innovated technology could make really nice feeling acid etched glass.

The glass can be tempered & the size can be customized as well.

For our purposes, “etched” and “frosted” refer to the decorative and translucent glass in your shower. As mentioned in our earlier blog, frosted glass is a textured material that lets light enter the shower and offers privacy as well. The best thing about this type of glass is that it does not get fingerprints or smudges on it, unlike clear glass. Textured glass is easy to clean and adds an elegant beauty to your fancy glass shower enclosure.
Truth be told, etched and frosted glass are not that different style-wise. However, in terms of your design goal, they are very different.
While etching changes the appearance of the glass, frosting simply produces a frosted appearance to the etching on the glass. In both cases, the outcome is achieved with abrasive materials. The rough surface and translucent quality of frosted and etched glass is due to the removal of minute glass particles.
In a nutshell:
- Etching alters the glass surface for decorative purposes, usually artwork, a pattern, or lettering;
- Frosting, on the other hand, produces an opaque appearance that limits the amount of light that goes through and gives more privacy.
Feedback
What if the shelters are scattered, they’re not just layed out on the stairs
Make sure the shadows of the context are in the final renders (tress etc)
Benches?
Why is it only around the pond??
Fix the final colour of the pond
In conclusion I have decided I will be choosing the flat surfaces with the inward design, as I quite like it more than the curved surfaces and since the idea of my flat surfaces were inspired by lilypads. This is also because to cover more surfaces when the sun hits the glass meaning during the afternoon the shape and sizes of the shelters should project into the site, compared to if the surfaces were curved it won’t properly show the shape of the glass shelter.
I quite like the symmetrical shape of the site so therefore I wanted to keep it this way by making the courtyard all horizontal shapes (parallel lines)
