Week 2: Model

Before making my first models my initial idea was to incorporate the light and darkness from my A2 drawing using the colour white (light) and black (darkness).

First photo:

Using a single (vertical) axis I have placed my models in line from the most interior to the most exterior (top to bottom).

Second photo:

I have then rearrange my models to the categories of light and dark (top to bottom).

Third photo:

From the second photo I then added another axis horizontally (fluidity to solidity) based on two of the contrasting conditions of sleep/wake that I have chosen to build.

2nd development:

The photo above shows my 2nd development of my model. For this model I chose to show the ice cream like-melted on the collar bones of my drawing that represents my body unsteady. It can also show the different stages of sleeping like a rollercoaster like. Going up represents good dreams and going down for bad dreams but, in my perspective it represents me dreaming of falling down from a high height as I dream of this more often every night.

After making this it reminded so much of Arakawa + Gins work (that I have included in my week 1) which I am happy that I have achieved incorporating one of my spatial designers that relates to my concept and to my model.

My final design:

The images above is my final design, for this i wanted to include a net like fabric in my model as this represents how light can easily filter through my curtains and make my room bright with the curtains close and I also liked how the shadows of the net shows. The unevenness of how the net fabric is cut out links back to my A2 drawing (unfinished face and ice cream like melted on her collar bone).

This model shows how fragile/vulnerable we are as the stick that is placed horizontally is kept balanced with no support on two vertical sticks and the thin wood that I used for the base is also fragile as it can easily break.

From my 2nd development I also wanted to include the idea of me dreaming of falling down hence why the fabric is drooping to represents myself of dreaming myself falling down from a high height. How the net fabric is drooping can also represents my blanket; too many wrinkles. I used a black and white fabric to incorporate light and darkness as shown in my drawing.
